Book Review: "Yawning at Tigers"

Yawning at Tigers: You Can't Tame God So Stop Trying by Drew Dyck, managing editor of Leadership Journal explores two vital aspects of the character of God - His dangerous power and
indescribable love.  Dyck tackles significant theology concepts in a relatable fashion, seeking to explore the truth of the Bible rather than just personal feelings.  He includes many personal examples to highlight the truths of God's Word.  The first half of the book highlights the power and holiness of God, while the last half of the book focuses on the amazing love of God.

It is my opinion that we have lost our perspective on the holiness of God in our generation.  However, many books that seek to restore the place of God's holiness tend to diminish or ignore the reality of God's love as nothing more than emotionalism.  The other side of that spectrum are those works which elevate the love of God at the expense of His holiness, making Him little more than a good pal.  Dyck manages to hold these two qualities in excellent balance throughout this book.  He reminds us well that head knowledge of who God is remains vital for us as believers, but it matters little if we know nothing of God Himself and His love.

I was pleasantly surprised by Yawning at Tigers and would highly recommend it to anyone.
