Be Still and Know

"Be still and know that I am God..." (Psalm 46:10). Such a simple and beautiful verse. But, in its simplicity, it seems much harder to apply to our lives. It demands that we be active in our stillness. It requires that, when our circumstances get overwhelming, we remind ourselves that He is God and He is in control. When we feel stress, our bodies naturally kick in to the "fight or flight response." A build-up of stress can eventually result in a lowered immune system, high blood pressure, and chronic anxiety and depression. The Harvard Medical School reported in 2020 that practicing deep breathing can calm our bodies and minds, resulting in lower blood pressure and reduced stress.

So, when you watch the evening news, scan social media, or whatever else triggers stress and anxiety in you, remember to be still and know that He is God. Pause and take a few slow, deep breaths and repeat the words, "Be still and know that He is God." Not only will it help you spiritually, it will help you physically and emotionally!
