Have you ever been in the humbling position of someone catching you daydreaming? Doesn't feel good, does it? You suddenly realize that your mind was somewhere else and you have no idea what the other person was trying to say to you.
Do you ever daydream with God? Not in a good way. I mean when you are reading your Bible and you have absolutely no idea what you have been reading. Just like a conversation, you heard words, but nothing sank in. In the same way, our eyes can see words on a page but they never sink in.
One problem in us may be that we aren't expecting to hear from God through His Word. We are reading just to read. One way to remedy this is to have a pen and notepad with you any time you open His Word. This helps create an expectation that He has something to say to you. Be attentive and open to what He is trying to say, and when that verse comes, write it down and take a moment to pray about what He has shown you.
